Books and Beautiful Minds: Summer Literacy Lounge

This summer, The Lemonade Circle brought stories to life at the Carver Community Cultural Center with our Summer Literacy Lounge, a cozy, creative celebration of Black literature, imagination, and connection.

From reading nooks to craft stations, every corner of the space felt like home. We laughed, we crafted, we sipped lemonade, and most beautifully of all, we listened. Our girls dove into books written by and about women of color, sharing their favorite passages, discussing characters that felt like reflections of themselves, and discovering new authors who spoke directly to their experiences.

At TLC, literacy isn't just about reading; it's about representation, voice, and seeing yourself in the pages. Through our Choco-lit Black Literature Initiative, we're intentional about putting books in our girls' hands that celebrate their identities, honor their stories, and expand their worldviews.
The Summer Literacy Lounge was more than an event; it was a reminder that when young Black girls see themselves in literature, they begin to envision all the ways they can write their own stories, too.
Thank you to the Carver Community Cultural Center for hosting us and creating a space where our girls' voices and imaginations could bloom.
