When Activism Meets Literacy

On January 17th, The Lemonade Circle brought our Literacy Lounge to the Eastside Boys & Girls Club for Martin Luther King weekend.

We welcomed Councilman Jalen McKee-Rodriguez, who sat down with our kids to read The Artivist. A story about a young boy using art and activism to make change in his community. It proves to kids that they don't have to wait until they're older to make a difference.
They can start now.

After the reading, every child walked away with their own book to take home. Because representation matters, and seeing yourself in the pages you read matters even more.
We're grateful to the Eastside Boys & Girls Club for opening their doors and making this event possible.
Dr. King's work was about access, equity, and empowerment. So is ours.
