Some of the best conversations happen over books.

On December 13th, we hosted our Literacy Lounge at Carver Community Cultural Center in partnership with Girls for Books San Antonio. Young readers from across the community

gathered for an afternoon of reading, connection, and creativity in a space that felt safe, welcoming, and designed for them.

With support from the Carver team and our interpreter, Ms. Shannon, we created an environment where every participant could engage and feel seen. The venue provided the perfect backdrop: comfortable, calm, and exactly what we needed to foster meaningful literacy experiences.

Our girls settled in with books, participated in activities, and built the kind of community that can only come from shared experiences. This is what literacy work looks like when it's done right: not forced, not performative, just youth exploring stories and ideas in a space designed for them.

Thank you to Girls for Books San Antonio for partnering with us, to the Carver team for providing such a welcoming venue, and to Ms. Shannon for ensuring accessibility for all participants. Our Literacy Lounge wouldn't have been possible without these collaborations.
