The Lemonade Circle welcomed families, students, and community members to the Carver Community Cultural Center for our fourth Literacy Lounge, an afternoon dedicated to celebrating the joy of reading and the power of community.

More than a reading event, Literacy Lounge was designed to create meaningful moments through books, conversation, and interactive activities. Guests were invited to bring a favorite book, settle in with family and friends, and spend time reading together in a welcoming space where everyone belonged.
This year's featured book, A Change Is Gonna Come, inspired many of the day's activities and encouraged participants to think about how small actions can lead to lasting impact.
Throughout the event, attendees explored stations that celebrated literacy, creativity, and leadership. Families learned about influential Black authors, listened to powerful messages from changemakers, reflected on ways they can make a difference in their communities, worked together to complete a community puzzle, and contributed to a collaborative art piece imagining a brighter future.
One of the most meaningful moments of the day came through our Change Chain, where participants finished the sentence, "I can make a difference by..." Each link represented a personal commitment to creating positive change, reminding us that every voice and every action matters.
Events like Literacy Lounge reflect The Lemonade Circle's commitment to making literacy accessible, engaging, and community-centered. Reading is more than a classroom skill. It builds confidence, strengthens imagination, and creates opportunities that last a lifetime.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this year's Literacy Lounge such a special afternoon. We look forward to continuing to create spaces where books bring people together, and every reader feels seen, supported, and inspired.
Together, we will keep making lemonade.
